Plein Air Painter - Hurricane Relief
The tiny island of St. Lucia was recently hit by Hurricane Tomas.
Charlie and I taught workshops there for 8 years. We have many friends there.
One of our members lives in St. Lucia. She and her family are fine. The Southern end of the island was hit the hardest.
People are missing, 12 people have perished. Communications are limited. Roads are impassable.
St. Lucians are a warm, humble people. We have always felt welcome on St. Lucia.
Anything our members can do to help would be so appreciated.
I know I always give to a special worthy charity, especially, at this time of year.
It will be a difficult Christmas for the people who have lost so much in this tragedy.
I am posting a link to a FACEBOOK page where donating info is available HERE
This disaster, does not seem to be getting enough attention in the media.
Thanks

ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings are an emotional response to the way I see my subject and I portray them as such.
Light is what draws me to a subject whether it is the coast and landscape here in Wexford or the canals in Venice.
I look, I see, and then I paint that emotion that first attracted me to the subject.

Plein Air Painter - May Member Feature Kath Schifano
"People want more time in their day to get things done. If I had more hours in my day, I would just keep painting.
While I often paint familiar places, I see new opportunities and different sights every time I set up my easel and choose a subject for my canvases. When I return to a location each encounter becomes a record of a different day, a different point of interest. I use oil paint and pastels interchangeably and with each other. Luscious colors and contrasts are irresistible to use, artistic elements & lines draw your eyes through my painting. If my images increase your appreciation of nature, or show you details that you would usually miss, then the pictures are successful.

Plein Air Painting Workshop - Feb 27 & 28 Sarasota/Longboat Key
The Sarasota/Longboat Key plein air painting workshop is just a short 2 wks away !
I'm excited to be able to paint outdoors again after the last month of cold, since returning from 2 wks painting in beautiful St. Lucia.
As you may know, this part of Florida is my favorite to paint. It has everything all in one place - water, lush greenery, quaint street scenes...let's hope it doesn't have snowscenes...lol
If you're in Florida, drive down for the weekend and join us. The workshop is two days Feb 27 & 28 from 10:00 am - 4:30pm for $275.00 pp - instruction only and PayPal is available for convenience. Notice how it's already starting to stay light longer ? I noticed on Fri, it was still light at 5pm EST.

Plein Air Painters - IPAP February Feature Artist Jim Southerland
Plein Air Painters
PLEIN AIR FEATURE ARTIST
James D. Southerland, M.F.A.
Professor of Art
"No art experience equals the challenge and joy of painting en plein air - alla prima; to record the impression of a time and place while painting on location.
Thousands of values, textures, and colors are seen by the human eye.
Plein air paintings express them within a limited palette and an economy of brush work.
Artistic style is dependent on the ability to observe, interpret, and respond through an honest, perhaps undeniable, individual connection to the formal elements and principles of visual art.
In the best of plein air painting, the artist's intuitive formalism and objective perception merge, creating works of art
which are legitimate, vital, and original, sustained not by formula, or system, but in the process of painting and the passion for it."

ART & BEYOND Magazine
Download our publication information HERE
WHAT IS ART & BEYOND PUBLICATION, WHY WAS IT CREATED
AND WHAT IT CAN DO FOR YOU
Art & Beyond is a bridge between artists and the global art world. It is published by Art & Beyond Studio, Inc., a company established in the United States in 2003.
Art & Beyond is a marketing/promotional tool we feel one needs to bring with you anytime you go to an exhibit and promote your work, whether at art shows, art expos, or even small exhibitions.
The key is to not be afraid to invest in yourself; in doing so you will open many doors and opportunities for yourself as an artist. Not only will you be able to show your works to potential galleries, but you will demonstrate the importance of yourself as an artist to potential buyers.
Each of your published works will increase in value over time; another crucial aspect to your success.
The most important thing to remember is that potential buyers most often prefer to purchase art from “published artists”.
