Plein Air Painter - Brandy Gale - June Feature Artist

Pushing the boundaries of traditional plein air is currently of interest to me. Incorporating mark-making, colour theory, and abstraction while working in the field has produced results that seem to challenge my past work, and I am inspired by this new direction.
When people see my paintings, I'd like them to make their own mind up about its significance for them. I am equally content if the viewer finds satisfaction in the colours and lines, or if they delve deeper for meaning. Brandy Gale

Feature Artist March 2008 - Julie Houck
My process is straightforward. I look at what I paint. I work in oils en plein air or in the studio. I try to put the atmosphere and emotion of the place or scene in my pieces. I am most interested in the transmission of light in my paintings. It is not always the literal view. I am highly influenced by my teachers who were mostly classically trained. The early years in the atelier have stayed with me. They taught me about light and form and creating atmosphere. I will always be grateful.
Although I live in Hawaii, I am not a regional painter. I travel to California and the West and to France several times a year. I am attracted to scenes that tell a story about the place. I believe this is a legacy from my career as a professional photographer. On location, my job was to tell the story with imagery. Pictures
told the story, not words. In my work, I aspire to capture that “something else” about a place and to recreate, on canvas, the feeling of “being there.”Julie Houck Studio

Feature Artist December 2007 - Barbara Perrotti - Florida
It is with strong motivation that I continue onward, having the same enthusiasm with which I first began my career as an artist. My time is filled with painting and working with my students. I try to instill in my students a feeling of inspiration and a thirst for learning. More than ever, my focus in 2008 is leaning towards people and their individual environments. My need to establish a sense of place; and beyond that, a moment of quality is of the utmost importance.... constantly treating my subject matter as mearly a vehicle to further explore the elements of painting.Barbara Perrotti is listed in Who's Who in American Art and is an active member in the following professional organizations:
International Plein Air Painters ( Sig. Status, SE Ambassador),
National Mus. of Women in the Arts,
American Impressionist Society,
Southern Ladies Art Conference,
Plein Air Florida (Signature Status).
Barbara was instrumental in founding the Emmons Cottage Gallery Co-op, East Coast Plein Air and Group of Eight.
Ms. Perrotti takes part in various plein air invitationals and competitions. She began formal drawing lessons at the age of seven; further education included the Paier School of Art and studies with Robert Brackman, Lois Griffel and Burt Silverman.
Barbara has recently received a professional artist development grant to further her career.

Feature Artist - October 2007 Doug Martin

Doug’s paintings are the expressions of his reactions to the intensity, subtlety and wonders of this amazing world. “If I can bring enough of the “feeling” of a place to my viewers they can, in their mind, fill in those details that impressionistic painting leaves open to individual interpretation. And it’s just those details that personalize a piece of art and allow each viewer to participate in “finishing” the piece thus making their experience with the painting unique.”
