WWPO: Pictures and News from Quadra Island, BC
Here are some pictures from our paint out on Quadra Island, BC, Sept 8 and 9, during the 2007 IPAP WorldWide Paint Out.
Firesign hosted a workshop for the paint out weekend to get more people here. First Warren Stenberg was coming but his wife had health problems so had to cancel about a month out. Then my friend Bill Adams said he would love to fill in-then his knee went into major pain so he had to cancel too. Dianne Bersea came to the rescue just a week before the workshop and did a wonderful job of getting everybody painting and having fun.
The weather was fantastic-sunny and not too hot with a bit of a breeze. So we went to Rebecca Spit and the Heriot Bay government dock and got some great paintings. Workshop participants were: Pat Hart, Rosemarie Gall, Laurie Savard, and Christina Munck. Perrin Sparks painted with us for the paint out, not part of the workshop. A few island folk came by Sunday at 3 PM to see our "gallery". Next year, we will have a reception and sale too.

WWPO Final Update from NHPleinAir
Our 3rd day of the World-Wide Paint Out was spent at Mill Brook Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Concord NH. The day got off to a slow start with low clouds and mist and only 4 artists daring to venture out to paint. Three of us stayed under the shelter of a large overhang on the deck at the gallery and the 4th had her own 1 person shelter! A few others showed up later in the day, and we had a good dozen by 3 PM - reception and sale time!
The gallery hosted a wine and cheese reception and our wet paintings were displayed on tabletop easels. Public traffic was a bit slow, probably due to the weather, but we did have 20-30 visitors and 3 paintings were sold.

We (7 of us, plus 4 children) gathered at the fisheries complex in the city of Castries. It was a very hot, sunny day so most of us gravitated toward the shade of a large tree. Consequently, there are several versions of the same boat. Others stationed themselves under a shelter near a pier. The art work was exhibited at the Pyramid building, the home of the Alliance Française. That pyramid is seen in two of the paintings.
There was media coverage before and after the event:

IPAP WorldWide Paint Out: NHPleinAir Update!
Friday: We had 14 painters at the Contoocook Village Dam - some NHPlein Air members, some who joined us because they'd read about it in the papers. Three of our members in Maine stayed closer to home to paint, but will be joining us for painting on Sunday and to participate in our wet painting sale. Another member stopped by to cheer us on ... so we had a total of 17 painters - a new record! We also had quite a few visitors who came by to watch us work, most because of press coverage prior to the event.
Saturday: We had a total of 19 painters! 15 at Dimond Hill Farm, our 3 in Maine, and one who was in a local art show but painted at his booth so he could say he participated. Several more new artists joined us today, again due to publicity. Lots of visitors. Now we just hope all these folks show up tomorrow for the painting sale! And we hope the weather doesn't force us indoors!
A curious weather note - our group has been particularly lucky weather-wise since the group started and we've actually recently adopted the motto "If the forecast said scattered, it's never mattered!" Today there were forecasts of scattered T-storms towards late afternoon. At our location is got pretty dark and the winds kicked up (causing us to get ready to make a run) and we got about 5 drops of rain but nothing more. One of the workers at the farm had been off site for a few minutes and said that less than 10 minutes up the road it was raining so hard that she couldn't see out her windshield, even with the wipers on high speed. We were TRULY blessed and our luck continues to hold.
I've got lots of photos, but no really good group photos as we were all spread out pretty well on both days. Hopefully we can get one good group shot at tomorrow's reception.

NHPleinAir Artists in New Hampshire To Do Magazine
The September issue of New Hampshire To DO magazine, a beautiful full color glossy publication, has a stunning 3 page article (pages 20-22) about White Mountain painters, with a "then and now" aspect. The article talks about the White Mountain school painters at the turn of the century - Benjamin Champney, Thomas Cole, etc and has full color images of two of Champney's paintings. It mentions the White Mountain art exhibit that is currently in place at the Museum of NH History in Concord.
NHPlein Air Artists is the focus of the "now" aspect of the article and images of paintings by Sharon Allen & Elaine Farmer appear right there with the Champney images! There's also a photo of Elaine painting that Sharon took on an outing in June, and that photo shows Elaine and part of the view that is the subject of her painting which appears next to the photo. Neat to compare the images!
The article ends with a highlight block that lists details of NHPleinAir's info for the IPAP World-Wide Paint Out and our other upcoming paint out at the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm on October 6 in Tamworth, NH. The Sunday date for our IPAP event is wrong there (September 10), but it is correct in the article itself and readers should be able to easily figure out that it's the 9th since the days are listed in sequence.

We're very excited about this article! The magazine has a fairly widespread circulation and is available in States other than NH (generally at Barnes & Noble and Borders) , so see if you can find a copy in your area. I'll be sending a copy of the magazine to Jacq.
