Member News: Chuck Marshall Wins State Competition

International Plein Air Painter Wins State Competition

Lebanon artist Chuck Marshall wins state art competition, held by Ohio Plein Air Society, (OPAS), in New Philadelphia, Ohio September 23, 2007.

Over 60 artist from the combined states of Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky,
Michigan, and Indiana converged on the quaint town of New Philadelphia to compete for top honors for the annual state competition.

The competition started Friday September 21 with a welcoming dinner. It
ended Sunday at 12:00 noon on the court house square, with each artist bringing their one best framed painting to display and be judged. Artist were allowed to paint anywhere in the town and surrounding county. The artist canvas, water color paper, or pastel paper had to be stamped Saturday morning to be eligible to compete. All art must be done from life and on location. Nothing could be done from photographs or in the studio.

Chuck took the Best of Show Award and Artist Choice Award, voted on by all
the competing artists. His winning painting titled “Ridge Valley Lake” also won the top Purchase Award. Mr. Jeffery McNealy purchased the winning painting.

Chuck teaches workshops in the Lebanon Ohio area and has one more left this
year. Oct. 5-7, 2007. The workshop is based on how to make a quick statement and a solid painting while painting Plein Air.
