6th annual Great WORLDWIDE 'Paint Out'

The Great WORLDWIDE "Paint Out" has always been 'green'

6th annual International Plein Air Painters WORLDWIDE Paint Out held
simultaneously around the globe.
See all countries participating HERE

International Plein Air Painters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The 6th annual Great Worldwide Paint Out commences on the weekend of September 5, 2008.
Plein air painters from all over the globe will convene to record the
historical buildings, places and vanishing farmlands, as part of
raising global awareness on our frail planet.

The Worldwide Paint Out is open to all artists. Sign up is free at
http://www.i-p-a-p.com . Organize a group in your local area, join a
group already online and encourage other artists to join in.
Send this info to other artists you know who may be interested in
helping to promote this Worldwide effort.
On a Worldwide scope, we need all the help we can get.

In Europe, it’s a common sight to see artists working outdoors and
while their efforts are much admired, people pretty much allow them to
work uninterrupted. In the US and Canada, plein air painters are a bit
of a novelty and create curiousity and entertainment. Children are
especially interested and awed by watching an art work being created.
Someday, outdoor painters may be as common place as everyday people on their way to work.

The World Tour of Contemporary Landscape Painters is part of
International Plein Air Painters Worldwide Organization. Partnered,
with Landscape Painters International, both organizations tour the
globe promoting green space and the obligation of landscape artists to
call attention to the cause.
You can see more info on this tour on IPAP’s website http://www.i-p-a-p.com

You may also want to join International Plein Air Painters
organization or start a group in your area.
International Plein Air Painters also welcomes benefactor
memberships, to help promote the plein air movement.

To join online go to
http://www.ipap.homestead.com/ membership.html

For 2008, IPAP and Dick Blick Art Supplies have partnered to sponsor
a $250 award at a TBA location.

See website for specific requirements and to apply for this award for
the Paint Out 2008.
http://www.i-p-a-p.com International Plein Air Painters is a blanket
organization created for the sole purpose of advancing the execution
and enjoyment of Plein Air Painting without the restrictions and
limitations of borders or regions. Membership is restricted to Plein
Air Painters, those serious to learn about Plein Air Painting and
those who wish to be benefactors advancing the Plein Air movement.

"Local Color" MOVIE- George Gallo plein air painter

BEVERLY HILLS.- Empire Film Group, Inc. has targeted a November 7th U.S. theatrical release for director George Gallo's semi-autobiographical drama, "Local Color" starring Armin-Mueller-Stahl, Ray Liotta, Trevor Morgan and Ron Perlman. The critically praised feature will open in 15 top markets with Empire's promotional campaign highlighting the Oscar-caliber performance of leading actor Armin Mueller-Stahl.

"Local Color" tells the story of a troubled teenager, played by Trevor Morgan, who seeks artistic advice from a cantankerous but world-renowned oil painter, played by Mueller-Stahl. Through the course of their time together, the young man learns how to see the world through an artist's eyes and the master learns to view life from innocence again. Based on real characters and incidents in the life of writer / director George Gallo, the film resonates with a poignancy and authenticity rarely seen in movies today.

IPAP Feature Artist August - David Scott McCurry

INTERNATIONAL PLEIN AIR PAINTERS FEATURE

DAVID SCOTT McCURRY
Greenville, South Carolina

My work is contemporary realism, which requires a plein air approach in technique. I use photographs sometimes to check the composition, tonal values, context, etc., but the actual painting is always done out in the open, in front of the subject. I am interested in urban, human activity in balance (sometimes in conflict) with nature. Age and history are elements I seek out when “scouting” a scene. Weathered wood and paint, rusty metal, crumbling buildings… these are things to which I know many in the plein air community can relate. My work as an academic in the field of education has taken me to many places in Africa , so much of my work was done there. I am currently interested in the urban development and rural history in and around the cities of Greenville and Abbeville, South Carolina . I use Winsor & Newton oils and sable brushes on traditional gessoed wood panels and paint in watercolor sometimes.

IPAP Feature Artist July - Alcina Nolley, St. Lucia plein air painter

Alcina Nolley is one of the best known artists in St. Lucia.

She was the first artist I was aware of in 1999 when I first visited the beautiful island she calls home.

When I offered a workshop to islanders in 2000, Alcina and I became friends. I found out she had been from Buffalo, NY.

Alcina sees the quiet beauty in a place that sees a lot of tourists.
I understand this. She is very involved as an advocate for the arts on the island.
Alcina is also an IPAP Regional Ambassador and organizes a paint out every September.

Alcina's artist page is at ALCINA NOLLEY
IPAP's feature artist is also on the Plein Aire group homepage and on the IPAP blog each month.

Let Alcina know you stopped by to see her work.

Congratulations, Alcina !

Plein Air Painter - Brandy Gale - June Feature Artist

Pushing the boundaries of traditional plein air is currently of interest to me. Incorporating mark-making, colour theory, and abstraction while working in the field has produced results that seem to challenge my past work, and I am inspired by this new direction.

When people see my paintings, I'd like them to make their own mind up about its significance for them. I am equally content if the viewer finds satisfaction in the colours and lines, or if they delve deeper for meaning. Brandy Gale

International Plein Air Painters FEATURE ARTIST APRIL 2008 - Aaron Holland

International Plein Air Painters FEATURE ARTIST APRIL 2008 - Aaron Holland
Brief Bio.

Aaron is most well known for his Plein Air landscapes and his affiliation with International Plein Air Painters and Landscape Artists International. He will be hosting a stop on the "World Tour" in April at the Link Gallery in Fish Creek, WI.

Aaron is also a seasoned Instructor. He has taught workshops at numerous locations, notably at the Peninsula Art School of Fish Creek, WI since 2000. Holland is also a Charter Instructor at the Kewaunee Academy of Fine Art, formerly the Barnsite Art Studio of Kewaunee, WI. He has taught regularly there since 2001. Holland's goals as an instructor and as an artist run parallel, that is: a healthy respect for nature and an observe of fundamental "truths" such as light and atmosphere, shape and value. Holland teaches an academic approach to drawing and painting and stresses the importance of understanding the basics such as accurate draughtsmanship, correct color and mixing, and calligraphic brushwork, as well as composition.

White Mountains: Artist’s Getaway Weekend, May 15-18

2008 SPRING Artist’s Getaway Weekend, May 15-18, 2008

Take a long weekend for just painting on location in the White Mountains. All skill levels are welcome. This will be our fourth spring weekend at the Bartlett Inn.

Pinkham Notch, Crawford
Notch, The Kancamaugus, North Conway and a thousand painting locations from old buildings to sweeping mountain views are within a short drive. You can paint alone or in a group. If it is your first trip to the area others can point you toward your painting preference. In bad weather we have found locations to
get under cover or paint at the Inn.

Thursday paint your way up to the Bartlett Inn and
gather after dinner in the Inn to chat. Friday morning have a great breakfast at the Inn and head out to paint. I will do a painting demo for those interested. There are many fine eateries in the area. Saturday eat and paint. Saturday night we order pizza in and check out our paintings. Sunday is breakfast and paint your way home.

We have had all skill levels join us at the painter
friendly Bartlett Inn. Nick and Miriam are great hosts and have a variety of lodging options. Nick has joined us on occasion. All reservations need to be made through the Bartlett Inn in Bartlett, New Hampshire.

This is not a workshop, the only cost is
lodging.

Plein Air Painting Video

Morgan Samuel Price

Plein Air Painting VIDEO

Another good video from AMERICAN ARTIST MAGAZINE

A Plein Air Painters website - North Carolina

I frequently search on the internet for news related to plein air painters.

Artist of Note - March 2008

Brenda Behr - North Carolina Artist

It takes one a long time to become young.-Picasso

It took me a long time to appreciate Picasso.-Behr

Once in awhile, like most other artists, I feel compelled to prove how well I can copy "reality", how real I can make my subject matter look, or I am commissioned by someone else to do this.

In a nutshell, here's what it has taken me my life as an artist to conclude... The older I get, the more I know that children know more than I do what drawing and painting are all about. It's about seeing and showing green the way we saw it the first time. It's about seeing and depicting our mothers, the way we saw her for the first time. It's about first impressions and about expressing those first impressions.

Further than this, it's about showing our first, most impacting impressions using value, form, and color in a way that is aesthetically appealing.

When I can do the aforementioned and do it consistently, I will consider myself a successful artist. Until then, I'm enjoying the journey, and especially enjoying it when someone else finds pleasure in my perspective. I hope that you'll enjoy my views.

Feature Artist March 2008 - Julie Houck

Artist Statement
My process is straightforward. I look at what I paint. I work in oils en plein air or in the studio. I try to put the atmosphere and emotion of the place or scene in my pieces. I am most interested in the transmission of light in my paintings. It is not always the literal view. I am highly influenced by my teachers who were mostly classically trained. The early years in the atelier have stayed with me. They taught me about light and form and creating atmosphere. I will always be grateful.
Although I live in Hawaii, I am not a regional painter. I travel to California and the West and to France several times a year. I am attracted to scenes that tell a story about the place. I believe this is a legacy from my career as a professional photographer. On location, my job was to tell the story with imagery. Pictures
told the story, not words. In my work, I aspire to capture that “something else” about a place and to recreate, on canvas, the feeling of “being there.”

Niagara Falls - Day in an Artists's Studio

Article: Art embraces special moments, places in outdoors";
By Doug Draper
Arts & Entertainment
Feb 08, 2008

This past Tuesday, on a damp, gray, foggy morning when many Niagara residents would probably prefer to spend a little more time in bed, Jacqueline Baldini was eager to head out to the countryside to capture the mood of the day on canvas."I am looking out there," said the Niagara artist at her studio on Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls, "and going 'Wow, look at that.'
"Those "wow" moments, when Baldini is full of passion for the light and colour a day can bring -- regardless of the weather or the time of year -- has fueled her art for more than 30 years and has earned her the respect of other artists, nationally and internationally, for her ability to produce works embracing special moments and places in the outdoors."I don't want a perfect world," said Baldini in a studio with walls full of paintings of the Niagara Falls area, including the rapids of the famous river and its cataract, and of other regions of Niagara and the rest of the world, including Portugal, Spain, the Bahamas, Honduras and Yucatan.
"If all we had were all blue skies and sunshine, that would be boring."Baldini is offering everyone from beginners to those will some experience in applying oil paints to canvas anything but a boring time at a workshop she is hosting at the Lundy's Lane studio this Sunday.
That workshop, called Day in an Artist's Studio, runs this Sunday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with coffee and Danish treats in the morning, a lunch and all materials, including canvas and paints provided, for a fee of $65."I am asked frequently to do weekly lessons at my studio," Baldini said. "I made the decision a few years ago, that people learn and absorb much faster when completely immersed in a project."As a host and mentor at the workshops, Baldini said she always finds them as rewarding as those who attend hopefully do. Often from someone who is just starting out in art, she said, she is reminded of the virtues of keeping things simple in some of her own work."I've had complete beginners in my classes," she said, "and I have learned from them."
Baldini's approach to art is something she said is described as "Plein Air Artist" or one who chooses to paint from life outdoors. "This often means painting in the fog, mist or frozen landscape of this beautiful peninsula," she explained. "Plein Air Painting is a metaphysical skill capable of creating an image that lets the viewer 'be there in the moment' when viewing the painting."An upper New York State native before moving to Niagara Falls more than thirteen years ago, Baldini is the founder and signature member of International Plein Air Painters (an organization of artists dedicated to producing painting of moving outdoor settings around the world) and in 2002 established the first Worldwide Paint Out, that brings groups of artists together through the internet each year to share their work.
Her paintings hang in private and public collections across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. To obtain more information on this Sunday's Day in an Artist's Studio Workshop or to register for the workshop no later than this Saturday,

Painting the Figure en Plein Air in Cortona, Italy
May 3-10, 2008
with Kathy Busillo

OPEN ENROLLMENT UNTIL MAY 1ST..... A FEW SPOTS REMAIN

In the tradition of Sorolla, Sargent and Prendergast we will be
painting the figure en plein air in Cortona, Italy. Simple scenes from everyday life are a long-standing tradition of the plein air painter. Picture yourself standing under the sun in Tuscany painting with a local model posed before a vineyard or within an olive grove. Other painting sessions will be in and around town where scenes of people going about their daily business abound. A day trip is planned for Florence and the Uffizi Gallery, with emphasis on viewing paintings with the figure in the landscape. Another day will be spent in Siena painting its residents and guests.

*All-inclusive plans, other options available.

CONTEMPORARY LANDSCAPE ARTISTS ANNOUNCE WORLD TOUR
“FAR AND NEAR HORIZONS”

Contemporary Landscape Artists Seek to Create Environmental Awareness and Stewardship of the Land as well as Further Appreciation for Landscape Painting
The world tour “Far and Near Horizons” is an international art exhibit organized by two of the world’s foremost contemporary Landscape Painting groups – Landscape Artists International (LAI) and International Plein Air Painters (IPAP).

“The mission of the tour is to act as a bridge between countries of the world to foster environmental awareness,” says “Far and Near" founder Linda Richichi. “The art on the canvas becomes a universal language and acts as an ambassador between different cultures. Art is a bridge, bringing us together.”

This unique gathering of Plein Air and Landscape artists from around the globe features 18 signature and charter members (expanding to 30 juried artists in 2008) who currently represent five countries. IPAP specializes in Landscape Paintings done entirely en plein air (outside), while LAI members paint landscapes in both plein air and studio settings. While the outlooks and temperaments are slightly different, the commonality of all the artists involved is a passion for painting nature’s landscape.

“As artists,” states Michael Chesley Johnson, Director, “there’s a reason why we paint the landscape and not the figure, still life or some other subject. The landscape feeds our creative fire. Thankful for its inspiration, we are eager to see that it gets taken care of. And the best way to see that it gets taken care of is to put it on display for the entire world to see. Our hope is that our paintings will encourage others to become stewards of the land – just as we have become its promoters.”

The Far and Near Horizons World Tour launched its tour in June 2007 at the Karpeles Museum in Newburg, NY, and St. Augustine Gallery in St. Augustine, FL, and plans several stops in the 2008-2009 seasons.
Cities currently scheduled are: Door County, WI (April-May),
Estes Park, CO (June-July),
Qualicum Beach, Vancouver, BC, Canada (July-August) and
Terrace Gallery, Orlando, FL (Sept 2008-January 2009).

"We are excited to bring this caliber of work to Colorado," notes Lynda S. Vogel, Executive Director of the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park, "and at the same time, honored to be part of their world wide mission using visual arts as the medium. As a gateway community to Rocky Mountain National Park, we have presented previous exhibitions that exemplify land stewardship and preservation through national tours like ARTS for the PARKS. We are grateful to work with IPAP and LAI and hope the public will join us this summer as we unveil Far and Near Horizons in Colorado."

Far and Near Horizons is made possible by generous assistance from art lovers and stewards of the land alike. Current sponsors are AirFloat Systems, ArtFrames, Golden Artists Colors, Jack Richeson and Co. and Dick Blick Art Materials. Throughout the history of humankind, the arts have only thrived in cultures that have appreciated and supported them as a thing of intrinsic value and significance. Individuals and corporations who count artists or art collectors among your clients or wish to further promote stewardship of natural landscapes, Far and Near Horizons welcomes monetary support to help with advertisement and administrative costs, as well as goods and services such as shipping, printing and gift certificates.
